This week in the classroom:
Math: Mental math strategies for addition and subtraction-Use 10 as an anchor (e.g. 19-9=10,19-10=9), Decompose a number to make a 10 (e.g. 8+5= 8+(2+3)
Reading: "on" sound, Daily 5 Reading activities, Small group guided reading and instruction
Writing: Share/read our "published" animal family descriptions with Mme L's class, introduction to procedural writing (Potion magique)
Oral Language: Sharing traditions, Halloween vocabulary
Social Studies: traditions and celebrations interview sent home, Mapping
Special Events this week:
HALLOWEEN---children are invited to wear costume to school on Wed, Dance-a-Thon (fundraiser) in Gym, We Scare for Hunger---Mon- meat, Tues-Pasta Wed-Beans
Children may bring treats for the class on Wed if they wish----no nuts or peanuts please!

Reading: Practice building independence and stamina during Daily 5 Reading activities, Mme will assign levels for Home Reading program (see newsletter section for more info)
Review of sounds a e i o u oi, ou, é and introduction of ch
Writing: Completing draft of Déscription and conferencing with Mme
Oral Language: Using French to interact in the classroom
Social Studies: begin looking at maps and cardinal directions, identify where students and families come from
